When you create a layout, do you create the page with a theme in mind? Oftentimes, a favorite paper pattern or ephemera is selected and the story is ignored. Today, I am sharing a page I created for our Disney album using elements to tell the tale.

These two photos were taken at the tale end of our trip. After spending three days visiting parks and three days at a conference, a bit of downtime was needed. That evening we chose to take the ferry to the next location and enjoy the cool breeze at sunset.

I wanted this page to have a calming vibe with a theme park feel, so I mixed a few nautical elements from the Limitless kit with pinches of Disney ephemera from my collection.
In the background, I created the look of waves hitting the boat using acrylic paint with a dry brush, then layered circles of pattern paper over the top.

The pattern papers I chose fit the theme of the photo. One has a vintage boat pattern while the other had a world map print. That day, we were leaving Epcot’s World Showcase, so I chose to use that print as a reference to that location.
One of the circles on the page is a photo of the name of the ferry we traveled on. Turning this into a circle was an effortless way to add the to the background and create an element that looked like it was an embellishment on the page.

Throughout the page, I sprinkled nautical and theme park elements. The wooden boat icon brought in a natural element to the page matching the woodgrain behind the photo, and the bits of red brought a theme park color to the layout.
My inspiration for this page came from a PageMaps sketch. The sketch shows the title at the base of the page and the journaling in the center circle.

I chose to place my title at the top of the page and move my journaling to this pattern paper at the base of the page. I typed the story onto some vellum and stitched it in place.
If you would like to learn more ways that I created this themed page for our album, I have a short process video for you to enjoy.
Many of the layouts in my Disney album are not traditional theme park pages. I am using similar colors, stickers, and phrases throughout the book, but each page is themed to reflect the memories we experienced.
