This week, I had a mess of mixed media on my desk, was living out of a suitcase, and a house full of construction dust. Instead of fretting over it all, I chose to lock myself away and play with all the goodies in my craft room. This lovely creation was created for the Coffee Loving Cardmaker blog and it was so much fun to make. Not only did it give me a break from the renovation stress, it also allowed me to take a little time to learn more about mixed media.
I struggle with mixed media. Its unpredictability hits all the OCD buttons and my lack of patience causes many mishaps. On this card, I had to learn to step away and allow all the layers to dry before I worked with the next.
The background is a mix of Distress Oxide Inks and Sprays. After blending the inks onto mixed media paper, I spritzed each area with water so that the ink would react forming droplets as it dried.
Once the water was dry, I splattered each area with Distress Oxide sprays. The paper I chose was designed for the ink to float on the surface so it took a little longer for the spray to dry. In my Facebook group, I shared a video showing how different mixed papers react with these sprays.
When all of that was set, I grabbed a lovely coffee cup image and stamped the images with espresso ink onto each of the circles then added a texture paste design with a stencil. Aren’t those coffee images adorable? I just love how it turned out.
In my Facebook group, I shared the process for creating this card and share what I learned when creating the card. If you have any questions about the project or the supplies used, feel free to leave me a comment below.
