Do you have a collection of mixed media items you want to use? The Christmas cards I am sharing today are fun to make and allow you to experiment with your embossing powders, texture pastes, stencil butter, and other mixed media items you might have in your collection.
All three card backgrounds were created using a layered stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs. This stencil is a four-part stencil designed to work together, but each image can also be used on its own.
Making these designs gave me an opportunity to play with my texture pastes, stencil butter, embossing powders, and glazes and I had so much fun experimenting with the combinations.
I was able to create three unique designs with just one set of stencils. On the first card, I combined embossing glaze, transparent paste, and frosted powder which created a lovely tone-on-tone design.
These are more traditional colors with a red background, green holly images, bits of silver thread, and gems. The sentiment is a black heat embossed image that adds to the Christmas feel.
For the second combination, I wanted a more retro feel so I selected an avocado green background and paired it with gold.
This card doesn’t have a sentiment on the front. I liked the simplicity of the gold, green, and white with the soft watercolor image.
Each of the One Line Holly image is shaded using watercolors. The backgrounds are so bold so I softened the design with watercolor.
Where the first card has holly in more traditional colors, the other two were shaded to match the card. These soft brown tones with bronze and gold berries creates such a charming design.
After designing two cards that were more traditional holiday colors, I decided to make one that was bright and full of color.
Blue is one of the colors I enjoy using at Christmas time, so I selected a soft background and paired it with turquoise stencil butter and white snowflakes.
The holly is less traditional, too, with blue-green leaves and purple berries, but it fits the background perfectly.
This is one of my favorites. I adore that shine on the stencil butter and how it contrasts with the matte texture paste.

These cards gave me an opportunity to pull out some of my pastes and powders and play. Sometimes you just need a reason to grab all the things you have collected and find a new way to use them. Each of these cards was created as a Christmas design, but you could easily change up the colors for a birthday or holiday.
