I love adding texture to my projects! It gives each design contrast, dimension, and lovely layers. Today, I am going to share a few ways that I added texture to an Everyday Summer scrapbook page that I created for Bramble Fox.
I began adding texture with the torn paper border and stitching. Not all projects call for this, but, when they do, it’s always fun. If you struggle controlling the tear of your paper, use a wet paint brush to create the line first, then tear along the waterline. I show this technique in a few of my videos.
Layering die cuts of varying texture, weight, and color is another way to add some contrast and texture to your page. Often, printed die-cut feel a little flat, but if you layer them with cardstock die cuts or other elements, they immediately begin to take life.
I like to shape some of my die cuts, too. On this page, I pinched the petals of the flowers and then layered them onto some cardstock pine branches. I cut the branches from two colors of sage cardstock to add even more visual contrast to the page.
I also added texture to the design with some embroidery thread. You can create thread trails, sweet little bows, or decorative knots with trailing tails like I did. The placement of this bit of tread creates some texture and a frame on this side of the page.
Not only can you add texture with paper elements, but can also create some contrast with acrylic shapes like the ones from Bramble Fox. On this layout, I used a title, arrows, and a bookplate to create some visual interest. The smooth perspextives add another textual element to the project.
When adding acrylic shapes, layer them with other elements so they don’t look like they are floating out of place. On this layout, I layered a flower behind the title and tucked the arrows among the pine branches. By doing this, I created a visual triangle with the perspextives and made them each a part of a embellishment cluster.
In my process video, I share a few more tips for putting this page together.
The photos on this page bring back some great memories and all of the elements speak to the time we spent in the mountains getting to know someone who would soon become a part of our family. I hope that this project gave you some inspiration for adding texture to your pages.
