Do you ever wish you could take a little break from coloring in stamped images? Today’s cardmaking project is designed just for you. I am going to share two simple designs that I created for TRHD using the SXS Life stamps and show how to create two distress oxide backgrounds using a mask cut with your Cricut or dies.
The masks for these two cards were created in Design Space and cut using my Cricut Joy. The backing on the masking material sticks to the standard grip mat, so the blue light grip works better for this.
On the card with the sunset image, I used the frame portion of the mask and then added some lines with repositionable tape. Using the grid on my Glassboard, I placed the tape onto the circle every half-inch to create a secondary mask.
To create the look of the sunset, I used a blending tool to apply a Scattered Straw, Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade and Abandoned Coral to the card.
I started with the lightest color and worked my way up to the darkest shade blending the colors together to create a lovely faded look.
Since the image was heat embossed, I was able to remove the ink from the image when I was finished. The embossing powder acted as a resist to the ink and came right off with a paper towel.
On the second card, I used the circular mask to protect the image and shaded the frame with ink. The combination of Salty Ocean, Salvaged Patina, and Mermaid Lagoon were blended together.
After adding all the shades of blue, I layered the Up in Flames stencil over the top and applied Speckled Egg to create a soft subtle design. For a bolder look, you could apply white ink or a deep blue pigment.
Once the card bases were inked, I cut down some black cardstock and pattern paper for each of the cards.
I then created two heat embossed sentiments on black cardstock and added them to the designs.
These cards are simple to make and fun to create with Distress Oxide inks. For those who would like to learn how to make these cards, I have a simple process video for you to follow.
I love how easy these cards were to create. You can change the colors of the inks and use any of the four side-by-side stamps to create a card for any of your off-roading friends.
