A Christmas Memories Layout with Bestof30dscbl

My plan for June is to catch up on some scrapbook projects as I join the Best of 30 Days of Sketches series with Christy’s Beautiful Life.  There will be thirty sketches and each participant’s video will be added to a playlist. If you would like to join, I will add a link at the end of this post. Today, I have a Christmas layout to share with you and some memories of our youngest son from 2020.

Challenges like this not only stretch my creative brain but also force me to use up some of my craft collection. This month, you are going to see a mix of papers and ephemera on my pages and you might recognize a few from your own collection.

On this page, I chose a Christmas tree pattern on a blue background that matches my son’s shirt and the tree candies he was creating. I paired this with some Christmas patterns, blue plaid, and woodgrains to give it a more masculine feel.

In the sketch, there are four small photos atop the strips of paper. I wanted my pictures to be a little larger, so I printed them in a 3×3 size using my Epson PM and opted for one less photo. I chose to hide the journaling on a tag behind the photos so that I could have more white space on the page.

I wanted to incorporate the circles and large embellishments on the page, so I added some printed vellum with circular stitching and large snowflakes cut from grey cardstock. The grey matches the soft splatters in the background and gives the page a warmer feel.

Throughout the page, I sprinkled some wooden embellishments. On the lower right, I added a wooden whisk and in the upper left cluster, I added a wooden heart. Both of these correspond to the theme of the page and create a nice visual triangle with the title.

I debated about the title for this layout. My collection of Christmas items is thin and I wanted it to reflect how I felt when I took these photos. I finally settled on a large wooden piece that says Love This and added a heart to the center

I feel like this title says how I was feeling when our 21-year-old took over the family tradition of making candy the year that I couldn’t. Everything about this memory makes my heart so happy.

In my process video, I tell the story behind these photos and share how this layout came together.

You can view the playlist of all the participants and join the challenge to see the sketches in the 30 Days Facebook Group.  These challenges are a great way to catch up on some scrapbooking and use up those supplies you have been collecting.

I hope this project inspired you to try something new and give this sketch challenge a try. If you have any questions about the project or the supplies I used, please feel free to leave me a comment below.
