This year, my daughter was unable to visit for Easter so she sent me some adorable photos of her on Easter morning. When you have adult children, you know that they can’t spend every holiday with you, but you can always record the memories when you get ahold of some cute photos.
In these photos, my daughter has on a lovely purple dress and her fiance is wearing a shirt with bright yellow lemons. These two colors are the perfect contrasting combination so I chose to use them as my primary color palette.
Using papers from Carta Bella, I added some textured pattern strips onto the polka dot background in shades of purple. I also added a few splashes of pale purple Distress Oxide ink behind the flowers and title.
Once the pattern papers were in place, I selected some embellishments and a title to complement the colors in the photos. The lovely yellow perspextive from Bramble Fox fits the page perfectly.
Around the title and photo, I added some floral elements. These included some magnolias and leaves cut using metal dies, and some stickers from the paper collection.
When I chose colors and patterns for my projects, I pick the color palette first. This usually matches the photos or the theme. After I decide on a color combination, I decide which one is going to be the gallon, quart, and the pint.
On this page, purple is the gallon, yellow is the quart, and green/blue is the pint. If you need a little more help understanding how to combine colors, I have a workbook I created that explains color theory in paper crafting.
Not only did I have to create balance with the color palette, but I also needed to find a way to hide my journaling as I was designing the page. If you don’t have room for the story, adding tags is a great alternative.
In my video, I share how I planned ahead for that journaling tag and show a few ways you can add texture to your layout.
I wanted this page to have a soft springtime feel. The floral die cuts, sticker elements, and papers go so well together and that lovey acrylic title pulls it all together. I love how this page turned out.
