Have you ever discovered a set of photos that sparks a powerful memory? That is exactly what these adorable pictures of my nephew did to me when I found them in a box. This “boy” will be turning 22 this year, and I vividly remember him toddling around in the snow.
This layout was created for the 12 Days of Christmas Inspiration YouTube hop. Today’s theme is Baby it’s Cold Outside, and I felt like these photos were perfect for this challenge.
I was inspired to create this design from a sketch posted by Scrapbook & Card Today’s Winter Challenge. A sketch is always a great place to start, and PageMaps are some of my favorites.
As I looked at the sketch, I realized that I needed to find a way to alter it to fit larger photos, and I needed to balance the design with some more color to balance out the dark blue hues.
I chose to stick to primary colors for this layout and balance those bold colors with neutral tones. For the background, I picked a fun snowball paper from Fancy Pants Designs and paired it with some patterns from Echo Park.
In the sketch, there is a ticket-shaped border below the photos. Since my photos were already taking up quite a bit of space, I chose to create a softer line with vellum-cut snowflakes. I love all the shapes and sizes that these dies offer.
With all the horizontal elements on the page, I needed to balance them with a vertical element. Instead of using the tags shown on the sketch, I chose to add some trees to match the outdoor scene in my photos. That little pop of green matches the grass in the photos and adds a natural element to the layout.
After adding the cluster of trees and the adorable “brr” tag at the top, I needed to find a way to create a title that flowed well with the other elements. The sketch shows the title directly below the tags, but I felt like mine needed to be a little lower.
I cut my title using my Cricut from multiple layers of adhesive-backed cardstock and adhered them together. This created a chipboard-like dimensional word for my layout.
By adding the title at the lower left, I create a nice flow to my page with blue, red, and neutral elements.

I hope that you were inspired by today’s project, and learned a few new ways to change a sketch to fit your photos. To view the other Christmas Memories videos, click on my video, and you will find the list in the description.
