When I purchase a new stamp set, I try to think of at least five ways I can use it. During my catalog walkthrough video, I shared how I plan to use a Christmas tree stamp on some of my sons’ pages. Before I tackle that project, I need to catch up on some Christmas card making. Today, I am going to share how I used that tree stamp to create three cards with wedding-themed papers.

Not only will I show you how to create these holiday cards using the Love Story paper and Christmas Tree stamp set, but I am also going to share some heat embossing tips, show you how to create a resist with Distress Oxides, how to mask a stamped image, and how to create a shaker card.
There are so many tips and tricks packed in this video. After you have finished watching, keep reading to learn more about the cards I made.
The first card in the video was full of techniques. I wanted to show you how to create a shaker element with a heat embossed resist and share how to mask a tree image from the Christmas Trees stamp set.

The sentiment inside the shaker was heat embossed with white embossing powder on white cardstock, then shaded with Chipped Sapphire distress oxide ink. The embossing powder “resists” the ink creating a bold white sentiment on that beautiful blue ink.
On this card, I also shared how to mask those tree images so that you could stamp them in multiple shades of ink. I like using full adhesive sticky notes for this technique, but you could also use masking magic sheets.

After stamping the image onto the post-it note, I cut apart the image and created a masking “puzzle”. Each of the puzzle pieces was removed every time I stamped a separate color. This is a really simple technique you can use with just about any stamp you have in your collection.
The second card was really simple to make. I used some of the Love Story wedding-themed paper for the background then I added three tree images above a die-cut sentiment.

Two of the trees are plain espresso cardstock cut using the dies from the Christmas Trees stamp set. The third tree was stamped with another tree image and heat embossed with white embossing powder.
When I began creating this series, I wasn’t sure if the Love Story papers would work for Christmas cards. The soft toffee tones and florals didn’t quite scream Christmas.

After I finished this card, I was in love with the design. I think the paper patterns are perfect and make this into a stunning card. Now I want to try to make a few with the mink and black paper packs.
The final card was another quick card to create. The background was randomly stamped with a tree image in white pigment ink, then heat embossed.

If you struggle with random stamping, make sure to check out the tutorial on this card. I give you a few ways to make your stamping not so “random”.
Just remember to heat emboss the Kraft paper in stages when you create this card. This paper is porous and soaks up the ink quickly.

After creating the background I added the pattern paper flag which was topped with some more Love Story patterns. I stamped a simple sentiment, then layered some joy die cuts to finish off the card.
Can you believe that I used the Love Story wedding-themed paper to create all three cards? I think it worked out perfectly and all three cards are simply beautiful. Which one is your favorite?
I hope that you enjoyed today’s tutorial and that you learned a few new techniques you plan on trying on your Christmas cards. If you have any questions about the project, please feel free to leave me a comment below.
