Card

Welcome to the New Product Blog Hop

Our new catalog has been out for a few weeks now, and our blog hop team has been working on some designs featuring products in this May June idea book. There are so many amazing items this season and we can’t wait to share a few of them with you. If you have not had a chance to see the new catalog, yet, you can view a walk-through video here

Our monthly blog hops are a wonderful way for you to gather a few ideas for future projects. Feel free to Pin these projects directly from each of our blogs and save them for later.  You may be just starting here or you may have come from Haley Dyer’s blog – either way, you are in the right place.  When you are finished viewing my Memorial Day Military Cards, click the link at the end of my post to “hop” on over to the next website. If you get lost along the way, you will find the list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

When I first opened the catalog, three new products caught my eye — the Stars & Sparklers papers, the Sunburst Thin Cut die, and the Military-themed stamp sets. I knew right away that I needed to create a series of cards for Memorial Day. This is just one of the cards I made for my upcoming video.

The background for the card was created using the new Sunburst Background thin cut. This metal die has been designed to help you easily create a starburst background without any extra measuring.

I love how simple it was to put the background together. If you choose to make a stack of these cards, as I did, I suggest you get yourself an organizer to place all the like-sized pieces into. I used a magnet board for mine, but my friend Jayma use a muffin tin and it worked great.

Since these cards are military-themed, I chose the Stars & Sparklers papers for my sunbursts along with some Sapphire and Kraft cardstocks.

I cut out all the pieces at once, organized them on my scrap’n easel, then started to arrange the patterns onto the cards. The designs on each card have colors, patterns, and images that repeat throughout the sunburst. This helps draw your eye to each of the images I added.

On this specific card, I chose to only use the patterns with stars and stripes with a kraft-colored background. I wanted it to replicate the flag and hero image I used on the project. I also duplicated the circle-shaped background with a stitched shaker circle frame. This not only draws your eye to the central images, but it adds a little texture to the card.

The stamped images were created using the Because of the Brave stamp & thin cut set. I am so glad we have some more military images I can use on cards and scrapbook pages. If you are in Canada, there is a set for you, too, called We Stand on Guard for Thee. There are a few images on this stamp set I would also like to use, so it is the next purchase on my wishlist.

I hope that this Memorial Day Hero card has inspired you to use a few products from the New Catalog. I will be posting a video tutorial on my YouTube channel later this week showing all four cards I created for Memorial Day with step-by-step instructions.

Now head on over to Krista Hershberger’s blog to see her work!  Be sure to visit all of the team blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas using products from the May June idea book. Remember, the items in our season catalogs are only available while supplies last. If there are any products currently on your wishlist, you might want to head on over to my site and grab them sooner than later.

I hope this inspired you to try something new. If you have any questions about this project or the supplies listed above, feel free to leave me a comment.
