It’s A Dazzling Dimension Technique Blog Hop!

Lovely layers of Dazzling Dimension. This month’s Technique blog hop will be full of projects showing you methods of adding dimension to your projects. Whether you are starting here or have come from Maz Wood’s blog, you are in the right place. When you are finished taking a look at how I used embossing folders to add dimension, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog. This blog hop is simple, fun, and full of ideas.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melissa’s Blog.

I enjoy adding dimension to my projects with texture paste, foam tape, embellishments, and, my favorite, embossing folders. There are so many fun ways to use embossing folders on your projects. Today, I am going to show you how I used some embossing folder techniques on my two Life is Cherry cards.

After I share my cardmaking techniques, I have a little Five Minute video for you. In this video, I will show you three fun ways that you can use your embossing folders to add some interesting dimension to your projects.

On my first card, I used watercolors to shade the debossed side of a piece of cardstock that had been embossed with our Spring Blossoms embossing folder. Each embossing folder has an embossed side and a debossed side, or inset image. On this card, I applied paint to the inset images and shaded them to match the paper patterns I chose.

After shading the images, I used a pattern from our new Make It From Your Heart idea book to create the card using papers from our Mix-In collection and Eat, Play, Love paper pack. One of the patterns in this paper pack is a Lagoon and white mix of stripes, dots, and lace. I cut and trimmed the lace strip and tucked it under the embossed piece of cardstock. How cute is that??

I also used some Stickers and Wood Shapes from the Eat, Play, Love collection to embellish my card. I added more dimension on my project with foam tape and wooden hearts.

This type of card will have to be hand-delivered or hand-canceled because of the additional elements, but they are just too cute and I can’t help myself.

I also used the elements from the Eat, Play, Love collection to create my second card. On this card, I used a piece of embossed cardstock that had been heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

In the video, I show how to add ink to your embossing folder using a brayer. To create the glossy look on this card, I applied VersaMark Ink to the Floral Lace embossing folder instead of dye ink.

Before placing my cardstock in the folder, I wiped it down with an anti-static pouch. After embossing my image, I sprinkled on some Clear Embossing Powder and heat set the powder using a heat tool. This gives your cardstock a beautiful three-dimensional look with a glossy background and raised matte design.

The pattern for this card also comes from the Make It From Your Heart book. I cut the embossed cardstock into squares to fit the stitched pattern on the Cherry paper, then added some fun little Eat, Play, Love elements. When I saw the little “Roll with It” sticker, I knew that I need to add the wooden rolling pin. Punny cards are my favorite to send.

Now that you have seen how I used embossing folder techniques to add dimension to my cards, you can view how to recreate these three-dimensional looks in my Five Minute Find video.
