Each month, we show you a variety of ways to use these exclusive stamp sets, and, this month, we are showing you how to use these beautiful floral butterfly and dragonfly images on your projects.

Dragonflies are my favorite creatures, so when I saw the Winged Masterpiece stamp set, I knew that I wanted to use that image. As you can see, it is filled with detailed flowers and leaves, so I had to be careful how I used the image. To prevent your eyes from being overwhelmed, I kept the project simple, used watercolors to shade the images, and added a little texture with bricks and hexagon shapes.
These Simple Watercolor Dragonfly cards are easy to make following my video tutorial. Before I show that video to you, I want to share a few of the details on each of these cards.
To create the brick background, I used Opaque Texture paste with a stencil I created on my Cricut Maker with our stencil sheets. I wanted the base of the card to have some texture and very little color so that the dragonfly stood out.
The colors on the dragonflies match the colors on the hexagons. I was inspired by a zip-strip on one of the March/April Mix-In papers with had floral patterns in Peacock, Glacier, and Sundance. I created a watercolor background using those same colors onto some distressed watercolor cardstock, then heat embossed the dragonfly images in black.
After the dragonflies were cut from the cardstock – fussy cut not die cut – I added them onto some hexagon shapes cut from those Mix-In papers. This is the first time I have used the Stitched Hexagon thin cut dies and I am loving how easily they can create a background.
Before I continue to explain how I made these cards and share the second card with you, I want you to have a chance to watch the video tutorial. You will learn how I created the watercolor and texture paste background and, hopefully, be inspired to use the Winged Masterpiece stamp set on a few cards of your own.
As you saw in the video, both cards were created in much the same manner with a few little changes. On the first card, I added a stamped sentiment on the front. On the second, I chose to add a wooden sentiment instead.
These wooden sentiments are a must-have in my embellishment collection. I had added them to cards, scrapbook pages, and home décor pieces. They add just the right amount of texture and a natural element to your projects.
I also changed the color of the hexagons on the second card to match the yellow wing on the dragonfly. This image was also darker than the first, so I chose a lighter blue hexagon behind it.
The hexagons were adhered to the card using liquid adhesive and foam tape. I have found that this MonoGlue works much better to adhere elements to texture paste than a tape runner does.
Both of these cards were very simple to make – I just had to be patient and wait for all the elements to dry before I could put them together.
