Our Creative Design Team is at is again with another wonderful video collab for all of you. This month, we are sharing some Sweet Ideas for Valentines through eight amazing video tutorials. Each of these wonderful ladies created something unique that you will love. I chose to keep my project simple this time, and show you how to use your embossing folders with some ink to create two Fancy Floral Valentine cards.
Each of these cards uses the same technique taking advantage of both sides of the embossing folder – the emboss side and the deboss side. In my video, I show you the difference between the two.
On the Funky Flower Valentine, I added ink to the embossed side of the Spring Blossoms embossing folder. I swiped black ink lightly onto the folder to create the appearance of woodgrain.
You can get a completely different look on your background when you pounce or sponge the ink onto the folder. I have used this inked embossing folder technique on a few of my creations. On my Loved Card, I pressed the ink to give it a more solid background. On my Tree Trimming card, I used a pigment ink to give it an airy appearance.
All of these cards use an inked embossing folder technique, but each one has a different appearance because of the way the ink was applied.
Before I continue to show you more details, I want to share with you how I created these Fancy Floral Valentine cards. This video tutorial will walk you through how to create each one of the cards and show you the ins-and-outs of an embossing folder.
One of the lessons I learned when adding ink to an embossing folder was to use a very light touch. You don’t want to add any ink to parts of the folder that need to stay white (or uninked).
Here you can see what happens when you apply too much ink to an embossing folder. It’s not horrible – I’ll probably find a way to use it – but it is not the result I hoped for. I was using pigment ink pad which has a spongy texture and made it a harder to apply.
Each one of the cards was uniquely embellished using die cuts I cut out from some thin cuts I had in my stash. I wanted one of the cards to have a more classic feel so I chose to use a scarlet red glitter bow with a small flower sequin in the center.
The second card had a little bit more flair with a three-dimensional flower cut from cardstock & striped acetate, a little wood button, and some tangles of thread. The acetate was leftover from a creativity in motion project and I hated for that little piece to go to waste. I think it makes the perfect flower.
Both cards we adorned with a lace border – one black, one white. I created these using the Fancy Border thin cuts which are designed to cut a continuous border. This lace die can be cut as long as you like and have a header above it as wide as your machine and paper will allow (love that).
The sentiments on these cards came from a same stamp set called So Happy Together. These stamps are so versatile and can be used for just about any occasion – including Valentine’s Day.
Here is just another look at each one of these cards which you can easily recreate for any occasion using the inked embossing folder technique. By simply changing the colors, the sentiment, or the die cuts, you would have the perfect card to send.
