Creating a Black & Silver Fall Card for H2H

I know that Halloween is right around the corner, but, instead of ghosts and ghouls, I chose create some black sunflowers for the Heart2Heart Not-So-Basic Black Challenge.  The Design Team was challenged to create projects using Black as the primary color and this week the blog is full of creations to inspire you.  We would love it if you played along.

We would love for you to play along with us this week. Just make sure to link your creation to the challenge before October 31st.

When you look at the photo below, it almost appears like it was edited with a black & white filter when, in actuality, the entire card was made using only black, white, and silver elements most of which were stamped using the With a Thankful Heart stamp set.   As a fun bonus to the project, I decided to play with a new Cricut toy I recent acquired – the foil transfer tool.

The background for the design is very simple. I cut a 2″ pieced of Mix-Ins paper and layered it atop a black strip of cardstock on a white card base.

The flower, leaves, wheat, and acorn images all came from the With a Thankful Heart stamp set.  To save myself a little time, I stamped all the images at once with Intense Black ink, attached all the thin cuts using post-it tape and ran them through my machine.

To create that beautiful little sentiment, I used a newly acquired Cricut tool – the Foil Transfer Tool.  This fun little gadget can be used with Explore and Maker machines to transfer foil images and text to your projects. You use it in conjunction with the Foil Transfer sheets to create a beautiful foiled design.

On this project, I used silver foil paper on some black cardstock to create my sentiment.  If you don’t own the Foil Transfer Tool, you could use our new Metallic Markers to create your own. That is what I used to create the little doodles around the sentiment.

This card was a very simple one to make and it allowed me to test out that new Cricut tool.  I can’t wait to play with it again.

I hope that today’s project inspired you to create something for this week’s Heart2Heart challenge. This is our last challenge of the month. Make sure to check out all the others we have and join a few before October 31st.
