When I first saw the icon for this technique hop, I wasn’t quite sure what to feature for my project. I haven’t had a chance to purchase that adorable Tabbed Door die, yet, and I have already made quite a few projects using the Windows Dies, so I decided to go back and look through my past projects for inspiration. That’s when I realized that I once featured a faux shaker border on a scrapbook page, but never showed anyone how I made it, so I decided to remake it in a whole new way.
This Fall Faux Shaker card design turned out so much better than I had hoped.♥ The background for the card was created using our Multi Circle Window thin cuts which I elongated to make a slimline card. The background is a beautiful wood-grain paper onto which I popped up the circle frame to make it appear like a shaker card.
When I say “faux shaker”, I mean “false or fake” shaker card. Those little sequins to not move or shake at all. They are glued into place in the windows.
The multi circle thin cut die measures 4″ × 5¼” with one-inch circles. To make it larger, I had to cut two images one right after the other on a piece of white cardstock. The space between the circles is quite small and it would have been difficult to try to make a shaker – not impossible, just too difficult for this lazy crafter to attempt today – so I chose to make it appear like the sequins were moving around in the windows instead.
The 3-D Flower is one our new thin cut dies that I use to create a fall flower using White Cardstock, Vellum, and Copper Ore paper. This flower is HUGE! I only used the three smaller dies on my card. Can you imagine the size of the flower if I had use the largest die??
The two bottom layers of the flower were shaded using some Distress Oxide Inks then layered using foam tape. The center was cut from our beautiful Copper Ore paper then rolled and shaped to form the stamens.
I also used the Copper Ore paper to create some leaves behind the flower. I love the subtly of that copper color paired with the stamped leaf images and wood shapes.
Once the leaves and flower were in place, I glued down the Rose Gold Sequins and added a wooden sentiment to the card. I had debated on adding a stamped sentiment, but it just didn’t seem to fit anywhere, hence the wooden sentiment – it was the perfect fit to this design.
