Card

A Mountain Wildflower Card

In summers past, I was able to spend my days in the mountains fishing or hiking, but this year, I have not been given a chance to go. Between home projects and a wonderful virus, lives have been spent at home dreaming of a day away. This week, I decided to revisit my memories of mountain walks by creating a simple wildflower card for the Atlantic Hearts Sketch challenge.

I kept the design simple, following the sketch, adding some embossing to each of my papers.  The bottom half was embossed with a striped embossing folder (like shown in the sketch). To create the look of the mountains, I embossed vellum with a tree embossing folder. If you don’t have this one, the mountains would look just as amazing.

The embossed vellum is really striking in person with white outlines where the folder created the design.  It looks simply stunning next to the pure white stripes.

Across the centers of the two papers is a piece of burlap ribbon stitched onto the card with an uncomplicated zigzag stitch. I also used the burlap ribbon to create some “leaves” on the flower.

The flower was created using the Budding Friendship stamp set with Lemonade & Saffron inks. I added some shading to the image using watercolor pencils and a shimmer brush.

After adding the ribbon and flower, I realized that I didn’t have a sentiment like the sketch. I dug through my stamps and banner dies to try to find something that would work. Instead, I settled on a sticker from the Timber collection. I think it fits perfectly with this design.

This card was very simple to create and fun to make. I hope it inspired you to try something new and join the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.
