A Memorial Day Card for the Heart2Heart Challenge

For many of you, Memorial Day means lots of online sales, like the one on my website, and a three day weekend.   While those are lovely things to celebrate, we need to remember that many families in the U.S. will be spending the weekend honoring the men and women who died while serving in the military.  The challenge this week, at Heart2Heart, is not Memorial Day related, but I decided to go a “little rogue” and create something to honor those who have been lost.

I know that many who have me on their Design Teams hate it when I go off the rails.  After all,  I never seem to stay inside the box and I always seem to create something completely different than the rest, but this week…..  I just had to.  With it being Memorial Day, I wanted to honor those who have been lost “somewhere over the rainbow”.

To keep with the “rainbow” theme, I used our Blue Skies stamp set to create a greyed-out rainbow and I added some sponged clouds to portray a dark rainy sky, but it is not at all saturated with color like my teammates creations.

To be honest, I didn’t feel like adding any joyful sparkle or dancing unicorns – I wanted my design to be simple, and soft, and sad.  Something to symbolize those we have lost.

My first hand experience will tell you that even the thought of loosing someone who is serving is frightening, but like this bright red poppy, it brings you so much hope and happiness, and a warmth to your heart that cannot be explained.

It is for that reason that I created this card – to remember those “somewhere over the rainbow”, to give hope to those who have family members who are serving, and to show support for those in our military service.

Memorial Day is about more than sales and vacations – its about honoring those who gave so much.  I wanted you to remember that this week.

I would also like for you to remember to join us for this week’s Heart2Heart challenge AND consider joining this crazy crafter on the Design Team.  We are currently looking for members and would love to have you.

I truly pray that you were not put-off by my desire to honor those in our Military Service and that you were inspired by today’s creation.  I hope you have a wonderful week, my friends.
