Today we will be showing you a variety of stenciling techniques as we highlight a few of our current Close to My Heart products!

When the new May/June catalog arrived, I feel in love with the Make a Splash stamp set. I couldn’t wait to create something with those adorable polka-dot boots, so I decided to create a card where those boots were the focal point in front of a brick wall background.
The background of the card was created using our Texture Paste mixed with a Toffee Shimmer Brush. I cut out a brick stencil design, using my Cricut, and applied the paste directly to the card.
Here are a Few Tips for Using Texture Paste
- A little goes a long way. You don’t need much for a project.
- If you want a smoother finish, be sure to use a steady hand as you apply the paste.
- Apply the paste with patting or even gentle slapping motions for an impasto effect.
- Always close the lid right away with Opaque Paste. It can dry out quickly.
- If you’re wanting a light, pastel hue, try mixing some watercolor paint into the paste
- For a deeper, richer color, add a few drops of re-inker to the texture paste.
- Add sparkle, like I did, with a little bit of Shimmer Brush ink.
After my Texture Paste had cured, I stamped the sentiment onto the card using Candy Apple Pigment Ink, then heat embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder. The sentiment I used also comes from our Make a Splash stamp set. Isn’t it the cutest set ever??♥
After stamping the boot image, I shaded them using our SpectrumNoir TriBlend Markers. In my video tutorial below, I not only show you how to apply Texture Paste, but I also show you how I used the markers to create the shaded images you see here.
Once I was done with my coloring, I added some whimsical polka-dots with White Embossing Powder, then layered them atop some flowers.
