Magical Christmas Layout: The Unicorn Reimagined

The sun is shining, the bees are out, the flowers are blooming… and I am working on Christmas pages.  When Close to My Heart asked me to “reimagine” the Magical Unicorn layout in the Everyday Moments collection, the first thing that came mind was a Deer and, with all the bright colors in the Blue Skies collection, I knew that I needed to create a Christmas layout.

Please take a few minutes to stop by my channel, subscribe, and hit the thumbs up if you enjoyed the tutorial.

If you read my previous posts, you know that I was assigned the Magical Unicorn key from the Everyday Moments collection and was asked to create the original design (seen here on my blog) AND a reimagined design.  In true Miss. Carrie fashion, I broke the rules.  I chose to use the Blue Skies collection, which is intended for summer, with the Magical Unicorn, which is not at all Christmasy, and created a holiday layout.

Are you able to pick-out which images I used from the original design?  In my video tutorial, I walk you through the creative process in Design Space so that you are able to see how I turned the unicorn into a deer.  There aren’t too many steps, and it’s a great tutorial for those who are learning to use their Cricut.

As you can see here, the ears, flowers, title and stars are all from the original Magical Unicorn key.  I love how those flowers turned out! The Blue Skies cardstock I used has a raised pattern design which make those flowers just pop off the page.

I paired the cardstock with vellum to soften the design some.  If you choose to use Vellum with these flower cuts, you are going to want to choose “Intricate Cardstock Design” in Design Space.  The vellum setting doesn’t cut those straw flowers as cleanly.

Along with the Blue Skies cardstock, I also used the pattern paper and stickers.  All of these are intended for summer designs, but I felt like they were the perfect backdrop for my Christmas photos.

One of the pattern papers I used had a sentiment design that didn’t quite match with the holiday theme, so I chose a sticker from the Blue Skies collection to cover it. Using the “Life is Sweet” sticker was a great way to stick to my holiday theme and add a little embellishment to the layout.

There are still a few details, like journaling, that I need to add to the layout.  I am in the process of creating an extended story with these holiday photos, so I am waiting to finish the story writing process.  Once I have finished, I will show you the completed design and share it with you.
