A Vintage Blue Rose Tag

For the Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge

You may have noticed that I have been creating quite a few old-world projects on my blog recently, using some of our new Yesterday & Today products and, today, I have another one for you.  For this week’s Color My Heart Color Dare challenge, our Design Team was tasked with creating inspiration projects using Grey tones with one or two additional colors.

I felt like a needed a little change of pace from the usual card, scrapbook page, and home decor project I typically make, so I decided to challenge myself with creating a tag .  I grabbed some Pebble cardstock, Peacock embellishments, and one of my new stamps sets, and got to work designing this Vintage Blue Rose Tag.

Let me show you how I created this little gem.  Using Pewter Ink, I stamped a repeated sentiment on a Pebble cardstock tag.  (This sentiment comes from our NEW Yesterday & Today card making stamp set.)  As you can see, I staggered the sentiment across the cardstock as I stamped.

Once I was finished stamping, I sponged the edges of the tag with Linen Ink then added some smudges of Opaque Texture Paste.  I knew that the two hearts and rose image would be placed near the base of the tag, so I made sure to apply the paste where I knew it would peek out from under the objects.

Since my plan was to shade the images with our TriBlend Markers, I chose to stamp the rose, leaf, and bird image with Intense Black Ink.  This ink is perfectly formulated for both alcohol markers AND watercolors.  It creates a crisp image and doesn’t blur or run with either of these coloring mediums.  Once the images were stamped and shaded, I used the matching Yesterday & Today Cardmaking Thin Cuts dies to cut out the shapes.

As you can see, I am still working on my coloring skills with fine detailed objects.  I didn’t realize how much alcohol markers could spread when you start adding multiple layers of color and shading.

Other Challenges I have joined this week:

I hope that today’s project has inspired to you to try something new.  We would love for you to play along with us at the Color My Heart Color Dare blog and create something using only grey and two additional colors.  Make sure to link your projects to the blog before March 19th.
