Creating a Lilac Dragonfly Card

For the Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge

Monochromatic cards can be fun to create, especially if you are able to add one of your favorite creatures to the design.  I enjoyed creating this card so much, that I have created a process video to inspire you to join our challenge.  This week, at the Color My Heart Color Dare blog, we are asking you to create a monochromatic card using only shades of purple.

To be honest, purple is not a color I use very often, but I will admit that I have enjoyed using our new Wisteria color. It has just the right amount of blue and, paired with Eggplant, it creates an elegant design.  On my Lilac Dragonfly card, I chose to complement these colors with some grey and black die cuts and stickers from our Celebrate Today collection.

I wanted to keep this card simple and make the dragonfly the focal point of the card. After all, it is one of my favorite creatures. This Country Dragonfly image has three layers and makes quite the statement. After stamping the image onto the circle, I created a second layer on a White Daisy cardstock die cut, then I created another layer on vellum.

I used that same Country Dragonfly stamp to create a randomly stamped background on my Wisteria cardstock. At this point, I felt like I had used a little too much purple, so I balanced out the design with some Vellum Leaf die cuts and a sentiment from the Celebrate Today sticker sheet.

This card is full of layers and layers of simple images and can easily be recreated for your purple-loving friends. To inspire you even more, I have created a simple how-to video for you to view.

I hope that today’s project has inspired you to try something new and join us for the Color My Heart Color Dare challenge.  Make sure to share your monochromatic creation with us before March 5th.
