Create a Vivid Valentine Card

for the Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge

After almost a month away, I am back in my creative space developing paper crafts for the Color My Heart Color Dare Design Team. This week, we are playing with the Celebrate Today papers and asking you to use the colors in this Tic-Tac-Toe color palette to create something for the challenge.

On my Vivid Valentine Card, I chose to use the colors on the top row – Raspberry, Lagoon, & Ballerina – with an added color that I have NEVER used – Nectarine.  To be honest, I am not  an “orange or yellow” person. That color is not in my wardrobe, in my home, or in my crafts, but, today, I decided to give it a try and I really like it

As you can see, I used the Nectarine color sparingly.  I was extremely nervous when I first pulled the flower off the Celebrate Today sticker sheet.  This is not a color I am comfortable with, and I wasn’t quite sure how well it would fit into my design, but, after the leaves were removed, I was delightfully surprised

The flower wasn’t the only element I altered for this card. The sentiment was a “love it” banner on the sheet Celebrate Today Vellum Die Cuts.  By simply cutting off the word “it”, covering what was left, and adhering it to my paper, you would have never known what the initial design looked like (unless you are looking really closely).

The letter “U” was also modified to match the design of the card. These Foam Alphabet Letters are white and easy to color with inks, markers, and Shimmer Brushes – like I did here.  I will warn you: they need time to dry and it helps to add a clear coat of Liquid Glass over the color if it doesn’t completely set, otherwise, the color will rub off the letter onto your project. (Don’t ask me how I know. It wasn’t pretty.)

Once all the elements were placed onto the card, I took a step back and decided to add even more Nectarine. Can you believe it?  I cut a small floral strip from the Mix-Ins paper pack and found a little piece of ribbon in my stash that matched perfectly.  Close to My Heart knew what they were doing when they designed the Celebrate Today products – all the colors coordinate beautifully.

I hope that today’s project has inspired you to try something new – like Nectarine – and join us for the Color My Heart Color Dare challenge. You do not have to use the Celebrate Today papers, but if you like them as much as I do, you will want to snag them before they retire at the end of February.  These papers, stickers, and die cuts can be found on my website and are available while supplies last
