We are in the midst of a renovating and redecorating our home, which means that I get to make some new home decor items for Christmas. If you have been following me online, you know that I can’t resist using my Cricut™ whenever possible, and today is no exception. To match our new decor, I have created these simple Faux Leather Ornaments♥ using the Free SVGS in the Holiday Cheer Bundle.
When you purchase any of the Holiday Cheer kits, your kit includes free SvG images which are designed to help you recreate more tags and ornaments. These can be used on cards, scrapbook pages, or, in my case, home decor items. Unfortunately, the SvGs and kits are only available through November 30th, so you will want to order them soon if you plan on creating these ornaments.
To learn how find your SvG images & upload them, you can view a tutorial here.
Once I uploaded and resized the SVG ornaments in Design Space™, I added some Close to My Heart images♥ that would be cut from Iron-On Vinyl for my ornaments. The Deer & Wreath images are from the Flower Market Collection and the Tree is from our Digital Art Bundle.
Each of the Ornaments was cut from Faux Leather on my Air 2. When using Faux Leather, you will need to make sure to place the shiny side down and mirror your images before cutting.
You will do the same with your HTV – shiny side down & mirror the images. After the Iron-On Vinyl (HTV) has been cut, you will remove the excess vinyl from the clear backing sheet, leaving only the cut image on the liner – this is known as weeding. To apply my HTV onto the ornaments, I am using a Cricut EasyPress Mini™. This little gem is perfect for small projects like this.♥ To determine the heat setting I used the Interactive Heat Guide which told me the temperature and heat time, then I applied my vinyl to the faux leather ornaments.
The final step was to add a backing and some bows for embellishment. Since many of you are new to Iron-On Vinyl and using Design Space™, I have created a process video for you,♥ to show you how I created each of the ornaments.
I hope that this project has inspired you and encouraged you use your Cricut™ this week. ♥ Please feel free to comment below if you have any questions or would like to suggest more Cricut™ projects.
♥I can’t wait to see what you create!
