Happy 4th! at Color My Heart Dare

We are celebrating Independence Day at the Color My Heart Color Dare blog and are asking you to join us. For this challenge, we have an inspiration photo for you that is sure to bring out your patriotic spirit.  You don’t need to have a blog to participate, just a willingness to create something using the photo as inspiration and the ability to post it on the Color My Heart Color Dare blog.ColorDare350

This week, I wanted to try something new because I feel like I have fallen into a bit of a rut lately.  Whenever this happens, I organize my supplies and thumb through my idea books. I happened across a new technique I have not tried yet – random image stamping – and I decided to give it a try. This is the result. MissCarriesCreations-July4thGrillinCardSM.jpg

Let me warn you. This technique is neither for the impatient nor for woman who has been up until midnight for the past two weeks. It takes a little bit of prep and planning, but the result is well worth it.  I started the process by choosing small images from the Grillin’ & Chillin and the Share the Joy stamp sets and laid out my pattern onto a 5″ x 6″ Block.

This took a little bit of time and patience, but the pre-planning was well worth it when it came time to start stamping the images. As you can see, I did make a few changes once I started stamping, but this gave me a starting point. After stamping each of the images using Candy Apple, Carolina, Bluebird, and Sapphire Inks, I trimmed off a small strip to place at the base of the card.

I then used the Grillin’ & Chillin’ stamp set to create a checked border and added a little white lace below. It reminds me of the Mom & Pop BBQ Joints we go to.To create the sentiment, I heat embossed the Happy 4th image onto some vellum and “attempted” to stitch it to a layer of cardstock shapes using Silver Embellishing Thread. (Note to self: Vellum does not like being stitched.)

So what do you think? Not bad for my first try at random image stamping. It does take a little longer to complete than the average card would, but the results are worth the effort.

I hope that this card has inspired to you share your creation on the Color My Heart Color Dare blog and give random image stamping a try. Have a wonderful 4th of July weekend, my friend, making memories with those you love.

I can’t wait to see what you create!
