A Bestie Card with a Watercolor Embossed Background

Last week, I created a tutorial showing you how to use our Flower Garden embossing folder to make an inked embossed background. This week, I am going to show you another way to use the same embossing folder♥ to create another type of background for your projects – one that uses our Watercolor Paints to create a one-of-a-kind look. 

This Bestie Card was simple to create using using our May stamp of the month and the embossed background technique I am going to show you.  This stamp set is only available during the month of May and is the inspiration for the Besties with H2H challenge. My background consists of a piece of Cold Pressed Watercolor paper that I dry embossed with our Flower Garden embossing folder.  I prefer to brush the watercolor paper with water first, but some people prefer to paint directly on dry paper.

So what’s the difference???♥  When you apply wet paint to dry paper you will have more control and more of a defined edge when shading your images. The paint only goes where your brush goes and the color soaks directly into the paper.

When you apply wet paint to wet paper, you achieve more of a washed effect. You do have a little less control of where the paint goes, but it is a little easier to remove mistakes before they completely soak into the paper. This is the method I prefer because I can easily clean up my mistakes before they set into the paper. 

As you can see, by painting onto wet paper, my paint is a bit more opaque and it flows onto the raised images very easily.  I was able to shade each of the raised images on the paper using a small brush with various watercolor paints.  This technique is a simple way to create your own personalized background♥ using an embossing folder.

The rest of the card was very easy to assemble.  I stamped the Besties image onto some Vellum paper with Black Ink, heat embossed the image with Clear Embossing powder, then shaded the back of the Vellum using ShinHan Markers.

I adhered the Vellum onto a White Rectangle Stitched Frame then layered the frame onto that beautiful Embossed Watercolor background using Foam Tape. I love♥ how that little Bee from the Sweet Girl Complements goes so well with the flower images and sapphire matting.
