Celebrating Memorial Day with Color My Heart Dare

This week, at the Color My Heart Color Dare blog, we are remembering those who whom have fought in wars past and present. I hope that when you look at the inspiration board below, you are inspired to create something to honor those we have lost and share it with us at the Color My Heart Color Dare blog. MissCarriesCreations-ColorDate344.jpgAs a Design Team member, I have the privilege of sharing an inspiration piece with you each month. This week, I decided that I wanted to create something in the spirit of Memorial Day that honored the women who are often not always represented as part of the lost on Memorial Day. MissCarriesCreations-MemorialDayCardCD344Many know the pain of loosing a loved one who served their country.  We need to remember that there were so many who fought, aided, and enlisted in each of the wars this world has been apart of, and we should honor each of them. If you would like to recreate this card, you can find the complete list of supplies I used listed at the very bottom of this post.

I created the background using the floral stamp from our, soon to retire, The World is Yours stamp set. I randomly stamped the image onto some Watercolor paper and used my Watercolor Pencils to shade the images. Since “green” was not a choice in the color palette, I shaded my leaves grey to create a subtle background.

I then wrapped the edge with Sapphire Crochet Thread and adhered it to some layered Candy Apple and Sapphire cardstock.  I wanted to avoid covering up the background, so I created a Vellum Tag using the Fancy Tag Thin Cuts and dry embossed it with our Flower Garden Embossing folder.

I cut two additional tags and some stars from Candy Apple and Sapphire cardstock. The sentiment was stamped with VersaMark™ ink and heat embossed with White Embossing Powder onto the Sapphire Tag.  (This sentiment comes from our For My Father stamp set.)

The rest of the card involved layering the images with some Foam Dots, adding a few loops of Silver Embellishing Thread, and some stars from the Silver Sequins.

I hope that this card inspires you to create something in the spirit of Memorial Dayand that you share your creation at the Color My Heart Color Dare blog. I always like seeing what you create and commenting on each one.  Remember, our The World Is Yours stamp set is only available, while supplies last, through May 31st.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

  1. I love everything about this card. The random stamped background, the vellum, the flowers, the crochet thread. Lovely!
