This week at Color My Heart Color Dare, we are challenging you to create a project using only Black, White, and one accent color. For me, this meant getting ahead (for once) and creating a Valentine card. Before I start explaining my project, I want to give you a little inspiration for colors that go well with Black so I created a little “Board of Color” for you.
Are the wheels in your brain turning yet? I found these photos and others on Home Did It where you will find almost twenty color combinations to use as inspiration for this challenge. Since I was creating a ♥Valentine’s Day♥ card, I chose to use Candy Apple as my accent color.
I know that this is a very “typical” Valentine color palette, but, honestly, I love all the patterns and textures that play so well together on this card. If you would like to recreate this card for “your person”, I have listed a few tips & techniques for you to read.
♥ The background for this card was created cutting Candy Apple cardstock with a Stitched Rectangle frame, then backed with Heart Happy paper.
♥ The layered papers came from our Something Fierce and Mix-Ins paper packs. I was unable to find a third pattern that I liked, so I stamped the “Arrows” onto White Daisy cardstock using the Border Melody stamp set, then splattered it with a Black Shimmer Brush.
♥ I wanted to keep my sentiment simple, so I cut a square using the Stitched Square Frames, stamped the A Piece of My Heart sentiments using VersaMark Ink and heat embossed using White Embossing Powder. I always love adding whimsical layers so I attached that cute Heart Clip on the side.
♥ My flower was a leftover from the Frame-It-Up kits I created. I chose not to add the Rose Gold center, but, instead, added Red Pearls. If you aren’t lucky enough to have some of these in your stash, you can use a Carmine Marker, and color White Pearls.
After adding some Candy Apple Striped & White & Gold Skinny ribbons and a few Gold Glitter Gems, the card was complete. I hope you are inspired by this card to join us for this month’s Color My Heart Color Dare. I can’t wait to see what you create!
Simply gorgeous!! Love all the details from the colored pearls to stamping on the pattern paper.
Thank you Cat! I just started pulling out everything that was red and started playing. 😁
What a gorgeous card, Carrie. I love everything and all the details you created with!
Thank you Michelle.
I really need to get the stitched border rectangles for myself. I love your flower and the sentiment is perfect for Valentines.
You definitely need to get them. They make the cutest borders.
This card is so pretty and really shows off your card making talents! Also, thank you for providing the board of color.
You are very welcome! I hope it inspires you.
