Call me crazy, but I take pleasure in a piece of Home Decor that I can change each season. Maybe it’s the creator in me or the indecisive hormones, nonetheless, having the ability to change my home decor intermittently is something I enjoy. This week, I decided to create a simple wreath that I can change throughout the year using the components from the Magnolia Frame-It-Up kit. This simple project is something you can easily recreate for your home.
My wreath base was cut at 11″ in diameter and 1½ wide from a piece of Foam Board, then wrapped it with Cotton Twine. By creating it from Foam Board, the wreath can be hung on a hook flush with the frame. After assembling the base, I began working on the leaves and flowers. Since Magnolia leaves are naturally glossy, I used a foam brush to paint the front and back of each of the paper leaves in the kit with Gloss Mod Podge. If you are not a fan of Mod Podge, you can use our Liquid Glass to achieve the same effect.(I happened to be out when I made this.)
The Magnolia Flowers in the kit have a grey center, but since my home has Americana decor, and I wanted to bring some red into my flowers. As I contemplated what shade of red to use, I thought,”Why not add glitter?”, (you can never have enough glitter) so I grabbed my Red Shimmer Brush and brushed the center of each flower.
The gold center of each flower is beautifully designed, but I felt like it could use “a little more” so I added some Gold Pearls. This product is currently retired, but you could either paint our White Pearls with a Gold Marker, or use some of our Gold Gems instead. (If you would like instructions for creating ‘realistic’ flowers, sign-up for my online Frame-it-up class on Facebook.)
Assembling the wreath was very simple. The leaves were glued directly to the Cotton Twine around the wreath base and the flowers were attached using Foam Dots. I punched out a few of the “Gold Twigs” from the kit and glued them randomly around the flowers and hung the wreath onto the frame.
This was a very simple project and one that I can’t wait to display in my home. My plan is to show you the additional wreaths as I build them through the year. If you choose to create this Magnolia Frame-It-Up Wreath, make sure to sign-up for my newsletter so that you can see the other wreaths. I can’t wait to see what you create!
