My Weird Scrapbooking Life

In honor of National Scrapbooking Month, I have decided to try to post more scrapbook pages.  As I created this layout, I realized that I have some really weird scrapbook habits. So, in honor of a month dedicated to scrapbooking, I have decided to share my top ten habits of “weirdness” with you.  (Maybe you can ease my mind into believing that some of these habits aren’t so weird.)

SBWeirdnessLayout

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER ONE
I love scouring the internet for inspiration and challenges.  This week’s online search led me to two challenges.  I adore the Raspberry, Mink and Juniper combination for this week’s Color My Heart Dare, and I really wanted to challenge myself to use Vellum as instructed in the Heart2Heart Challenge(These challenges are so fun – this time I was blessed with the Diamond Award from Color My Heart Dare and the May Darling Award from Heart2Heart.)

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER TWO
I don’t glue everything down all at once.  In fact, I am known to have a huge pile of randomness that I have thrown onto the page, rearrange, THEN when I am finally satisfied – I snap a photo of it on my phone for reference. By taking a photo, I have something to refer to when my life calls me elsewhere or when my ever aging brain forgets where I placed that stamped rose.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER THREE
I change my mind a lot.  Originally, I had placed the stamped vellum raspberry rose overlay on top of raspberry cardstock, but after looking at the fundamentals paper, I decided to go with white cardstock instead. Which leads me to weird habit four…

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER FOUR
I look at all the items I have chosen for additional inspiration.  The background paper has raspberry roses on white – I matched those with a heat embossed velum raspberry rose on top of white cardstock.  The Thin Cut Hearts have stitching which I matched by adding stitching to the page.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER FIVE
I eat chocolate while scrapbooking and sometimes have to use a white pen to cover up the random chocolate stain on a layout.  My scrapbook desk holds two tins  – one with chocolate and one with dog treats. I don’t dare mix them up. 🙂

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER SIX
I save most of my scraps and Cricut® mistakes.  On this layout, the vellum roses were cut from scraps, the cardstock roses were cut from scraps, the leaves were stamped on scraps, and the title was a mistake made and used.  I even cut my little hearts from the raspberry roses I had intended on using.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER SEVEN
I use a lot of foam tape. I need to by this stuff in 100 foot rolls.  I love the dimension that using both Thin 3D Foam Tape and 3D Foam Tape as well as our Foam Dots gives to a project.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER EIGHT
I don’t post many layouts with photos.  In all honesty, I like to keep my family life private and protected.  Although, I do seem to have (and post) more pictures of my dog than my kids and her little attitude would prevent most people from taking her.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER NINE
I like to use a variety of shapes, colors, and textures on my projects.  I have been learning quite a bit lately about color application and how to “match” tones and shades.  I love mixing lines with floral and scripts. I am careful to make sure that each has something to add to the layout and doesn’t take away from the photos.  I am also a big fan of texture.  It adds dimension and sophistication to a project, but a little can go a long way.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER TEN
I make A TON of mistakes.  That white pen thing with the chocolate is just the tip of the iceberg. I have been known to leave a coffee ring on a project then cover it with a flower or clean a stamp and mist the ink all over the page – great opportunity to try my hand at splatter painting. I have been know to pull a piece of paper up only to tear it then just call it “added texture”.

So, maybe some of these aren’t so weird, but, to me and my little brain monsters, they seen awful strange some days.  I do hope that you take a little bit of time during National Scrapbooking Month to express your “weirdness” and breathe in the paper goodness of crafting.  Make sure to take the time to visit my website and see all that Close to My Heart is offering to celebrate a month dedicated to scrapbooking.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

  1. Gorgeous LO and loved reading your ‘weird habits’……over the years I’ve gotten so much better at ‘fixing’ my mistakes or slips….that’s where real creativity really comes in. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Love this page! Also loving Weird Habit #2…what a great idea! Thanks for sharing your habits & your talents on the Color My Heart Color Dare blog.

  3. First of all – LOVE this layout! Your dog is gorgeous in this photo and the colours complement the photo so very well. I love all the little details around the picture. Your “weird habits” aren’t weird at all (except maybe the chocolate and dog treats being so close together on your scrap table as I don’t keep my dog treats anywhere near my scrap table so I can’t relate to that one). I love reading about how others think they are so strange when we all have our own ways of doing things – that aren’t so strange after all! Thanks for sharing your beautiful scrapbook page and a small insight into your world with us at both Colour Dare and H2H 🙂

  4. I loved this weirdness. KEEP IT UP!! and thank you for sharing your quirky ways. I also love love love your creativeness. ❤

  5. Your scrapbook page is beautifully laid out and your adorable pup looks quite happy with her surroundings. Gorgeous, and why is it gorgeous because of your 10 Weird Habits. Loving your list of 10 Weird habits … I’m not surprised on how many of these same weird habits are mine. Though I don’t do too many scrapbook pages, I go through the same weird habits. My stack of extra cuts and stamps and colors just keep growing, but some are used for the inside of the same card. Thank you sharing your beautiful layout and Weird Habits with us here at Color Dare…I always admire your work. Anxious to see what you can do with our TicTacToe color choices, please join us.

      1. Just saw that you combined this with the Heart2Heart Challenge vellum challenge…excellent. Thank you for sharing again. I have shared a link to your blog on my blog because there are a lot of Weird Scrappers out there. And you know what’s Weird, the spelling of the word from usual “ie” rule…lol.

      2. Isn’t it just an odd word…trying to teach children the English language is just weird because not a single rule can be followed to the fullest. Thanks for putting a link on your blog. I just have so much fun sharing my oddness with others. 🙂

  6. Enjoyed reading your blog – LOL! Your scrapbook page is simply wonderful. I am enjoying the papers and shapes you used, but the cute canine grabbed my heart. Thank you for sharing your creation at Color Dare.
